The medtech giant wants to strengthen operations in Jacksonville, Florida, by scaling manufacturing, packaging and distribution capabilities. Its Vision business produces a range of eye health solutions, including Acuvue contact lenses and next-generation intraocular lens (IOL) technology.
J&J’s investment includes construction of a new, state-of-the-art distribution facility, alongside advanced manufacturing and packaging technologies to expand capacity and meet growing demand for its leading Acuvue lenses. It comes as part of a $55 billion U.S. investment in manufacturing, R&D and technology through early 2029. The company expects to make its facility fully operational in 2028, with construction already underway.
According to Johnson & Johnson, the investment builds on its $6 billion annual economic impact in Florida. It strengthens opportunities for its 3,500 employees based in the area, where it has operated for more than four decades. J&J currently manufactures more than 1.7 billion Acuvue contact lenses per year for U.S. patients.
“This investment reinforces our long-standing conviction that advanced manufacturing in the United States is essential to delivering innovative, high quality healthcare solutions to patients at home and around the world,” said Joaquin Duato, chair and CEO of Johnson & Johnson. “By further strengthening our Vision operations in Jacksonville with next-generation manufacturing, packaging and distribution capabilities, we are enhancing the resilience of our U.S. supply chain while helping more people see better and live better. This commitment reflects the confidence we have in our people, our technology, and our more than 40-year legacy of advancing eye health globally.”
