NxStage adds former CMS veteran to board of directors
NxStage Medical Inc. (NASDAQ:NXTM) chalked up another boon with the news that former chief medical officer of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Dr. Barry Straube joined the board of directors this week.
Straube enters the NxStage board after six years with CMS, during which time he was also director of the office of clinical standards and quality. He oversaw initiatives in Medicare coverage decision-making, quality improvement collaboratives and many sections of the Affordable Care Act of 2010, among others.

Personnel: Case Western Reserve professor appointed to MetroHealth board
A Case Western Reserve University professor of healthcare finance has been appointed to MetroHealth System’s board of trustees.
J.B. Silvers was appointed to the board of the county-subsidized health system by Cuyahoga County Executive Ed Fitzgerald, Crain’s Cleveland Business reported.
Silvers’s research has focused in the areas of financial management and health services, which is not likely to have escaped notice.

Boston Scientific Corp. (NYSE:BSX) announced the appointment of a new member to its executive team today, and she comes with a colorful background.
Newly minted senior VP of corporate communications Denise Kaigler has held senior-level positions at both Reebok and Nintendo of America. Now she brings more than two decades of experience in corporate communications, global public relations, marketing and corporate branding to the Natick, Mass.-based medical device giant.
Help wanted: Boston Scientific to hire 250
Boston Scientific Corp. (NYSE:BSX) plans to hire 250 new employees for its manufacturing operation in Latin America, according to a report from Costa Rica.
The Natick, Mass.-based medical device maker is expanding its engineering, production, quality control and process development roles in Heredia, just outside the capital city of San José. BSX also has a plant in Alajuela, Costa Rica, according to Inside Costa Rica.

Meelia era ends at Covidien as Almeida set to take over company
Richard Meelia, the CEO who led Covidien plc (NYSE:COV) in its various incarnations for more than two decades will hand over the keys to the corner officer to José (Joe) Almeida today without fanfare.
Meelia, 62, was named president & CEO of Covidien in June 2007, after it was spun out of the disintegrating Tyco International. He was elected chairman in October 2008 and has been with the company in its different forms for 20 years.
SonoSite adds two to senior management team without increasing operating expense
Ultrasound company SonoSite Inc. (NSDQ:SONO) announced that it added two new members to its executive team today.
The Bothell, Wash.-based company simultaneously appointed Jack Sparacio as chief operating officer and Matthew Damron as global chief marketing officer.
