India’s Supreme Court approves settlement amounts for J&J hip patients

India’s Supreme Court last week reportedly approved a compensation plan for patients there who were implanted with a since-recalled metal-on-metal hip made by Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ). J&J acquires 3D-printed spinal implant maker EIT

Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) said today it acquired spinal fusion implant developer Emerging Implant Technologies for an undisclosed amount. Norderstedt, Germany-based EIT produces 3D-printed titanium interbody implants specifically for spinal fusion surgery. The company’s devices use proprietary cellular titanium which J&J said consists of an open and interconnected porous structure intended to promote bone growth into the implant. […]

Certain polyethylene-lined hips may last longer than others

Researchers in New Zealand found that artificial hip liners made of highly-cross-linked polyethylene showed less wear 10 years after implantation than liners made of conventional ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene.
