Butcher, who has served as group president for MedSurg and Asia Pacific since 2022, is expected to step back January 1, 2027, while staying on as a senior advisor through February, according to a filing today with the SEC.
His current remit covers the Asia-Pacific region and China, as well as the company’s urology, endoscopy and neuromodulation businesses, in addition to its corporate affairs organization and environmental, social and governance efforts.
Butcher first joined Boston Scientific as a sales representative in 1996, according to his LinkedIn page, before rising to the VP level in 2009 in urology and women’s health, and then moving to locations including Singapore and Tokyo as an endoscopy and regional marketing leader.
From 2020 to 2022, he was EVP and president of Asia Pacific, overseeing the commercialization of the company’s full portfolio.
Butcher currently chairs Boston Scientific’s Global Employee Resource Group Leadership Council for Inclusion, and represents the company on the board of directors for the medtech trade association AdvaMed. He also holds board seats at STAAR Surgical and Acotec Scientific.
For the past month, Boston Scientific has been working through the wake of a cyberattack that temporarily shut down certain global business operations. Last week, analysts at Citigroup downgraded the company’s stock after Boston Scientific said it may miss full-year financial targets while it recovers, following guidance cuts earlier this year and increasing competition in sectors such as pulsed field ablation.
