Arthur Hu will make the jump from Lenovo Group, where he helped lead artificial intelligence adoption and business transformation initiatives as its global chief information officer.
Following 17 years with the personal computer giant, Hu also served as chief technology and delivery officer for its solutions and services group. He will succeed BD’s Denise Russell Fleming, who plans to retire at the end of this year.
“Art is an exceptional technology and transformation leader with a proven track record of using digital, AI and automation to drive performance at scale,” BD President and CEO Tom Polen said in the company’s announcement. “Bringing his depth of technology-sector experience to BD strengthens our leadership team and gives us an important advantage as technology becomes increasingly central to how healthcare is delivered and how leading MedTech companies operate.”
Last year BD launched its AI-powered connected care platform, Incada, paired with its Pyxis Pro automated medication dispensers for hospital pharmacies. The cloud-based Incada provides inventory management with natural language search, and will serve as the foundation for the company’s plans to build links to patient-facing hardware such as vital sign monitors and infusion pumps.
“Art will play a critical role in building a faster, more productive and more connected BD — modernizing our enterprise, embedding AI into how we work, and translating technology into greater innovation and stronger business outcomes,” added Polen.
Elsewhere in BD’s C-suite, the company recently brought on Gary Sorsher as chief quality officer from Edwards Lifesciences, to follow the retirement of Jeff Silvestri. This year the company also welcomed a new chief people officer, with the promotion of Manish Sinha, and officially named Vitor Roque as chief financial officer after he held the role for six months as interim leader.
Additionally, the president of BD’s medical essentials and biopharma systems segments, Michael Garrison, announced plans to retire in early October. The company’s connected care division, meanwhile, hired a new president in 2025 with Masimo’s Bilal Muhsin.
