Sorsher brings more than 30 years of experience leading organizations across the medtech industry. Most recently, he served as chief quality officer at Edwards Lifesciences. Throughout his career, Sorsher has built and led high-performing quality organizations, strengthened quality systems and helped companies navigate growth while maintaining a focus on product quality, reliability and patient safety, BD said in a press release.
Before his 11 years at Edwards, Sorsher worked as vice president of quality at Allergan. Prior to that, he was VP of quality at Endologix. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from the Belarusian National Technical University (BNTU), which was known as the Byelorussian Polytechnic Institute when Sorsher graduated in 1988.
The company also announced that Jeffrey (Jeff) Silvestri, SVP, global head of quality, will retire from BD in October after more than 25 years. Since joining BD in 1998, Silvestri has helped strengthen BD’s quality foundation and advance quality capabilities across the enterprise, according to the company.
“Quality is the most important way we earn trust with customers and patients who rely on BD every day,” said Tom Polen, chair, CEO and president of BD. “Gary’s experience leading high-performing global quality teams and his practical, continuous improvement approach will be important as we continue to advance world-class quality excellence and keep raising the bar for what we deliver. I’d also like to thank Jeff for the contributions he has made to our company and wish him well in his retirement.”
BD has made several leadership changes over the past year. In October 2025, CFO Chris DelOrefice left the company. Vitor Roque was named interim CFO on his exit and was later made permanent CFO in May 2026.
In April of this year, Rick Byrd, EVP and president of the Interventional segment, retired. Peter Menziuso replaced him in May.
In June 2026, the company appointed Manish Sinha as CPO.
Last month, Mike Garrison, EVP and president of Medical Essentials and BioPharma Systems, announced he would be retiring at the end of this fiscal year. BD is searching for a new Medical Essentials president.
