The new hexapod ring-fixation system automates the strut adjustment process during treatment for limb deformity correction, limb lengthening, complex fractures and post-traumatic complications.
Traditionally, hexapod ring fixators (HRF) require manual strut manipulation by the patient or their caregiver over weeks or months of treatment. Maxframe Autostrut makes frequent, small strut adjustments that could help improve the quality and speed of bone formation when compared to manual HRF adjustments, according to DePuy Synthes.
Since the device features Bluetooth capabilities, it connects with digital treatment planning technology and mobile connectivity to enable real-time remote monitoring and remote treatment management, proving surgeons with greater flexibility during the correction process.

DePuy Synthes showcased the next-gen Maxframe Autostrut at the Orthopaedic Trauma Association Annual Meeting this week.
The orthopedics business — which Johnson & Johnson MedTech is reportedly in talks to sell all or parts of the segment for around $20 billion — debuted four new plating systems for its VOLT (Variable Angle Optimized Locking Technology) fracture fixation plating platform. The new offerings will expand DePuy Synthes’ VOLT portfolio into the ankle, knee and shoulder.
DePuy Synthes also announced a 2027 launch for its new Velys Hip Navigation with AI-Assisted Surgery featuring intraoperative guidance and fracture reduction assistance.
“With an estimated 178 million new fractures occurring globally each year, our commitment to driving innovation to help surgeons manage increasingly complex injuries has never been stronger. The hardware offering that defined our industry is now moving forward with a best-in-class precision threaded locking platform, we are expanding into connected care across the entire skeleton, and we are increasing our footprint of solutions that surgeons need to improve patient outcomes,” DePuy Synthes Trauma Global President Paolo Di Vincenzo said in the launch announcement.
