Angel investors started to come out of their shells during the first half of the year with angel investments up more than 3% compared with H1 2011, according to research out of the University of New Hampshire, and medical device companies took the lion’s share of the backing.
The medical device and equipment sector grabbed 24% of total angel investment during the first six months of the year, according to a study from UNH’s Center for Venture Research.

Baxter (NYSE:BAX) is pulling all Automix nutrition compounding systems in the U.S. over concerns that the devices could fail and deliver dangerous and potentially fatal chemical doses to patients.
The Automix systems provide automated intravenous feeding, pumping nutrients into the body while bypassing the gastrointestinal process.

MASSDEVICE ON CALL — Deputy director Dr. William Maisel of the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health was arrested last month amid a prostitution sting operation in Maryland.
Maisel joined the FDA in 2010, prior to which he held prominent positions at Boston’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and taught at Harvard Medical School.
