Medtronic wins CE mark for ApexCut surgical blades

April 24, 2026 By Sean Whooley

This image shows the logo of Medtronic.Medtronic (NYSE:MDT) announced today that it received CE mark approval for its ApexCut surgical blades for ENT procedures.

The medtech giant said ApexCut represents its next generation of powered ear, nose and throat (ENT) instrumentation. It designed the technology to improve surgical efficiency and address frequent challenges in the operating room.

Medtronic said it developed the ApexCut blades in close collaboration with surgeons. Their design aims to reduce clogging and deliver smoother, more predictable performance during powered ENT procedures.

New design features incorporate an updated mouthpiece and tooth-to-tooth cutting pattern intended to minimize interruptions and help maintain procedural flow.

With CE mark in hand, Medtronic plans to begin its first cases across Europe with the surgical blades “shortly after approval.”

This marks the latest boost for the Medtronic ENT business, which recently added an FDA indication for the Stealth AXiS surgical robotic platform in ENT procedures.

Commentary from Medtronic officials

Panos Drakoulas, VP of international for the Ear, Nose, and Throat business at Medtronic, said:

“We are very excited to receive CE mark for our new ApexCut blades for sinus surgery. This is a significant milestone that enables us to bring this innovative technology to surgeons across Europe, offering a seamless solution designed to support consistent performance so they can stay focused on what matters most — their patients and the procedure.”

Sean Haag, president of the Ear, Nose, and Throat business at Medtronic, said:

“ApexCut blades are a testament to what’s possible when we listen to surgeons and innovate with purpose. This milestone reflects our commitment to delivering solutions that empower surgeons to provide exceptional care to their patients. We’re excited to see the impact this technology will have across Europe and beyond.”
