Since 2024, Mike Marinaro has served as EVP and president of the Minnesota-run medtech giant’s Medical Surgical portfolio, Americas, and global commercial operations. In an SEC Form 8-K filed today, the company said he became president of Medtronic, effective Oct. 14.
In a statement shared with MassDevice, Medtronic said: “Medtronic has announced a leadership change that strengthens its operating structure and aligns key responsibilities across the enterprise. … The change reflects Medtronic’s focus on strong enterprise leadership and clear alignment across important markets.”
In the expanded role, Marinaro will keep his current responsibilities and also oversee the company’s Greater China operations, which Alex Gu, SVP and president, Greater China, will continue to manage locally.
According to Marinaro’s LinkedIn profile, he joined Medtronic as a Boston-based territory sales manager in 2000. Over the years, he worked his way up the executive ranks in the company’s cardio businesses, eventually serving as SVP and president of CRM for six years. In 2022, he became SVP and president of Medtronic’s surgical robotics program, based in the Boston area, which is centered on the company’s Hugo soft-tissue surgical robotics platform. The next year, he became EVP and president of Surgical. Marinaro’s profile lists him as located in Boston.
Marinaro has a BS in marketing from Boston College.
Headquartered in Ireland but operating out of Fridley, Minnesota, Medtronic is the largest medical device company in the world, according to our annual Medtech Big 100 report. (Visit our sibling Medical Design & Outsourcing site for a free download of the Medtech Big 100 Special Report.) Marinaro becomes the company’s president as strong demand for AFib-treating pulsed-field ablation (PFA) drives double-digit revenue growth. The company is reinvesting in high-growth platforms including Affera cardiac PFA systems, Hugo robot-assisted surgery, hypertension-treating Symplicity Spyral renal denervation (with a transradial catheter slated to launch in the second half of the fiscal year), and the urinary incontinence-treating Altaviva tibial neuromodulation implant.
Geoff Martha has been Medtronic’s CEO and board chair since 2020.
