Surgical system maker Zap Surgical Systems said yesterday that it is facing a patent infringement lawsuit from Elekta (STO:EKTA B) related to its Zap-X gyroscopic radiosurgery platform.
San Carlos, Calif.-based Zap Surgical said that said that it is facing a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California asserting that its Zap-X gyroscopic radiosurgery platform infringes on an Elekta patent.
“The lawsuit requests the typical remedies for patent infringement, including damages and an injunction,” Zap Surgical said in a press release.
Zap Surgical said that it is acting quickly and that it plans to aggressively defend itself, adding that it has identified multiple non-infringement and invalidity positions that are being further developed.
In March, Elekta said that it won Health Canada approval for its Elekta Unity magnetic resonance radiation therapy system.
