Abb0tt (NYSE:ABT) today posted second-quarter financial results that topped Wall Street forecasts, leading to an increase in its earnings guidance.
The company now expects adjusted EPS to range between $5.45 and $5.60 for the full year. It projects sales growth between 6.5% and 7.5%. While sales guidance remains the same as previously touted, the company raised its adjusted EPS guidance from $5.38-$5.58, just one quarter after cutting that guidance due to dilution from its $21 billion acquisition of Exact Sciences.
Shares of ABT rose more than 11% to $99.59 apiece in morning trading today.
The Abbott Park, Illinois–based medtech and diagnostics giant reported profits of $928 million. That equals 53¢ per share on sales of $12.6 billion for the three months ended June 30, 2026.
Abbott recorded a 47.8% bottom-line slide on a sales increase of 13%.
Adjusted to exclude one-time items, earnings per share came in at $1.31. That landed 3¢ ahead of expectations on Wall Street. Sales also topped the forecast as experts projected $12.5 billion in revenue.
Medical Device sales totaled nearly $5.9 billion in the quarter, growing 9% year-over-year. Abbott attributed its growth in this business to low-teens growth in Electrophysiology, plus high-single-digit increases in Rhythm Management, Diabetes Care and Heart Failure. In Diabetes Care, continuous glucose monitor (CGM) sales grew 11%.
“Our second-quarter results reflect the momentum we are building,” said Robert B. Ford, chair and CEO of Abbott. “We expect this momentum to continue and drive accelerating sales and earnings growth in the second half of the year.”
Analysts view the results as positive, with BTIG’s Marie Thibault, Alexandra Pang and Sam Eiber writing:
“We interpret ABT’s mention of Q2 momentum and expected acceleration in 2H26 as a sign of stability in underlying procedures, a clear positive.”
More from the Abbott second-quarter earnings call as the company expects new product launches
On the company’s second-quarter earnings call, Ford pointed to multiple recent milestones in the quarter, including completed enrollment in a study of intravascular lithotripsy (IVL) technology, the submission of the next-generation Amulet 360 left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) device and CE mark for the Libre Duo dual glucose-ketone sensor.
Ford also said the company anticipates major product launches for these three technologies alongside its TactiFlex Duo pulsed field ablation (PFA) catheter in the U.S. over the next 12 months.
Abbott also remains on track to complete enrollment in a number of clinical trials to support future products. Those include a balloon-expandable transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) system, a leadless conduction pacing device for the Aveir pacemaker, a mitral replacement valve developed after acquiring Cephea Valve in 2019, a peripheral IVL device following the 2023 acquisition of CSI and a wearable continuous lactate monitoring sensor.
“We have momentum building across the portfolio and clear line of sight to the key drivers of sales growth acceleration that are forecasted in the second half,” Ford said. “Our continued focus on gross margin expansion gives us confidence in raising our full year EPS guidance, and we have several new products that we anticipate launching at a steady cadence over the next 12 months.”
