Abbott completes Exact Sciences acquisition

March 23, 2026 By Sean Whooley

Abbott Exact SciencesAbbott (NYSE:ABT) announced today that it completed its acquisition of cancer diagnostics developer Exact Sciences.

The company struck a deal to acquire Madison, Wisconsin-based Exact Sciences in November 2025. It agreed to pay $21 billion for the company, raising $20 billion in a notes offering earlier this month to finance the deal.

Abbott says the acquisition establishes it as a leader in fast-growing cancer screening and diagnostics. It says the deal enables it to serve millions more people through the products offered by Exact Sciences, including the flagship Cologuard, a non-invasive test to screen for colorectal cancer.

Exact Sciences also offers the established Oncotype Dx, alongside the Cancerguard test for multi-cancer early detection and the Oncodetect test for molecular residual disease and recurrence monitoring. Abbott says the company also has a pipeline of next-generation diagnostics designed to detect cancer even earlier. These can help optimize treatments and enable regular monitoring to better manage disease.

Under the terms of the deal, Exact Sciences now becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Abbott. The medtech giant expects the acquisition to add about $3 billion in incremental sales in 2026.

“Abbott’s global scale, track record of operational and commercial excellence and work with healthcare systems around the world will expand access to important tools for early cancer detection and personalized treatments,” said Robert B. Ford, chair and CEO, Abbott. “With the legacy and deep expertise of the Exact Sciences team, we’re ready to transform cancer care.”
