EPA advisory panel's ruling could disrupt medtech

A scientific advisory panel to the EPA is convening today to evalute the environmental watchdog’s determination that a common medical device sterilizer, ethylene oxide, is carcinogenic.

If the panel confirms that assessment, medtech companies warn, it could disrupt the supply chain for their lifesaving products.

SafeShot Technologies hits on $6M

SafeShot Technologies said it brought in a $6 million funding round to pursue a new business strategy, relocated to the Reprise Technologies medical device incubator and expanded its executive roster.

Now based out of the Reprise facilities in Menlo Park, Calif., SafeShot plans to "execute its new business strategy aimed at filling the gap in the supply of sterile injectable medications," according to a press release.

Covidien recalls flush syringes

Covidien (NYSE:COV) recalled some lots of its Monoject syringes after discovering a sterilization mishap and labeling problem.

The issues affected 6 lots in shipments that went out to customers in the U.S. and Bermuda, the Mansfield, Mass.-based medical products giant said.
