Definiens CEO Thomas Heydler is leading the charge to put his company at the forefront of personalized medicine, starting with a big data approach in order help treat patients.

The imaging software company, started by Nobel Physics prize winner Gerd Binnig, seeks to identify and analyze biomedical images in order to help doctors treat patients as early and efficiently as possible.

Nephros expands European distribution deal

Nephros expands European distribution deal

Nephros (OTC:NEPH) said it plans to extend and expand its deal with Italian distributor Bellco Srl, adding more countries to their existing deal.

Mirandola-based Bellco is focused on providing dialysis and extracorporeal blood purification technology. The 2 companies have extended their deal until Dec. 31, 2021, according to a press release.

FDA OKs Integra LifeSciences foot bone wedges

Integra LifeSciences (NSDQ:IART) said it obtained 510(k) clearance from the FDA for its Integra titanium bone wedges.

The wedges are designed for corrective procedures, such as osteotomies, in treating fractures in foot bones, according to a press release.

DiFusion wins CE Mark for anti-microbial technolog

DiFusion Technologies said it secured CE Mark approval in the European Union for its CleanFuze antimicrobial spine implant line.

Georgetown, Texas-based DiFusion said the CleanFuze devices are designed to reduce surgical site infections using its antimicrobial orthobiologic polymer.

BioTrace Medical brings in $3.4M

BioTrace Medical is closing in on its $3.5 million goal, having raised $3.4 million in a funding round, according to a regulatory filing.

BioTrace, which is backed by early-stage medtech angel Xandex Investments, is developing a temporary cardiac pacing device to treat reversible symptomatic bradycardia.

Medline guidewire recall now Class I

The FDA categorized Medline Industries’ recall of its ACME Monaco guidewire as Class I, denoting the risk of serious injury or death.

The recall of the ACME Monaco guidewire, designed to direct a percutaneous catheter through a blood vessel, was 1st initiated in August 2013 on the potential for the guidewire’s coating to flake off.

Breast implant maker GC Aesthetics reels in $60M

GC Aesthetics brought $60 million from 3 healthcare investment groups it plans to use to expand its breast implant business.

Dublin-based GC Aesthetics is the umbrella company for 2 different brands, Nagor and Eurosilicone.The funding round was led by a $40 million contribution from OrbiMed, with existing backers Montreux Equity Partners and Oyster Capital contributing the rest.

Update: Seno Medical closing in on funding goal, now at $35M

Seno Medical is inching to its $39 million fundraising objective, having brought in $34.6 million in its Series C equity funding round.

San Antonio-based Seno has been at this for some time, and for this round has brought in MedCare Investment Funds as a lead investor. The funding is going towards the company’s U.S. pivotal study of the Imagio breast imaging device, as well as chasing CE Mark approval in Europe.
