CareFusion (NYSE:CFN) said it plans to acquire Intermed Equipamento Medico Hospitalar, a Brazilian medical device company, for an undisclosed amount.
Sao Paulo-based Intermed makes ventilators and respirators for the hospital market in Latin America and Brazil.

MASSDEVICE ON CALL — The FDA handed Proteus Digital Health clearance for its novel ingestible sensor, passing the product through a new medical device category.
The sensor is swallowed in a pill and powered through contact with stomach fluids. The device communicates wirelessly with a patch on the skin, which collects metrics such as heart rate, body position and activity.

The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the healthcare reform law – and therefore the medical device tax – could bode well for medical device companies over the long term, Wall Street analysts say.
Companies have already baked the impact of the 2.3% revenue tax into their assumptions, as have most med-tech investors, the analysts say. That likely means a short-term hit on The Street, as the upside of repeal evaporated this morning, but longer-term growth as 30 million to 40 million new patients gain health insurance.
