Stereotaxis (NYSE:STXS) announced today that it partnered with CardioFocus to advance robotic pulsed field ablation (PFA) technology.
The companies hope to combine both of their proprietary technologies to accelerate the robotic PFA technology toward commercialization. They hope to bring to market the first-ever robotic PFA solution for treating cardiac arrhythmias, according to a news release.
CardioFocus develops the Centauri PFA system, a CE-marked platform used to treat more than 9,000 patients to date across Europe. open-platform PFA system, supports focal contact force catheter workflows. It leverages a custom monopolar waveform designed to achieve transmural lesions while eliminating microbubbles and muscle stimulation. The system enables durable PFA lesions while enhancing procedural efficiency, safety and patient outcomes.
Stereotaxis develops robotic magnetic navigation (RMN) systems introducing the precision and safety of robotics in cardiac ablation. The company touts more than 150,000 ablation patients treated globally to date with its technologies. Those include the Genesis RMN system and the MAGiC Sweep, a high-density electrophysiology EP mapping catheter.
The companies say they worked to pair Centauri with its MAGiC robotic cardiac ablation catheter. They already completed bench and preclinical testing, including recent preclinical studies demonstrating safe, efficient and impressive lesion delivery, as well as deep durable lesions in ventricular tissue.
Stereotaxis and CardioFocus say the agreement facilitates clinical trials, regulatory compatibility and commercial availability.
Commentary from Stereotaxis and CardioFocus officials
David Fischel, Stereotaxis chair and CEO, said:
“We are excited to collaborate with CardioFocus to accelerate bringing robotic PFA to the Electrophysiology community. The precision, stability and safety profile of robotics with the efficiency and attractive lesions created by Centauri is a winning combination. We look forward to transitioning to first human use and advancing the regulatory process in the coming few months.”
Stephan Ogilvie, CEO of CardioFocus, said:
“The combination of our patented PFA waveform and the MAGiC catheter has the potential to improve patient lives. Through rigorous scientific development, we have customized our proven PFA waveform for Stereotaxis’ RMN systems and anticipate the collaboration will advance patient care in electrophysiology.”
