Glasgow, Scotland-based Novosound labeled its technology the world’s first ultrasonic blood pressure monitor. It can now miniaturize blood pressure monitoring in devices like smartwatches and smart rings with accuracy comparable to conventional electronic cuff devices.
Novosound develops proprietary flexible thin-film ultrasound technology for medical imaging. The venture-backed company currently targets next-generation intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) imaging.
The company built its technology on its Slanj platform and says it demonstrated the system in real-world settings. It presented results last month at the IEEE International Ultrasonics Symposium (IUS) in Taipei. Slanj also extends to other applications like hydration tracking, muscle health assessment and gesture control.
Novosound also said it recently completed a $2.6 million funding round. Par Equity led the round, while Kelvin Capital, the University of the West of Scotland and Scottish Enterprise all participated. The company plans to use the funds raised to accelerate the commercialization of its ultrasound technology.
