Jim Peichel announced his promotion today on LinkedIn: “Having spent more than 25 years at Medtronic, I’ve had the privilege to work alongside incredibly talented, innovative, and passionate colleagues. Now, as CTO, I’m honored to serve as the voice of our tech talent — a community at the heart of our Mission.”
News of the appointment comes about a week after Ken Washington’s retirement from the position of chief technology and innovation officer. Washington — a former VP and GM of consumer robotics at Amazon and chief technology officer at Ford Motor Co. — has already announced a board appointment to medical device industry supplier TE Connectivity. He’s also the new board chair at iGENTIC AI.
According to Peichel’s LinkedIn, he started at medtech giant Medtronic in 1999 as a software engineering intern, rising through the engineering ranks over his career. His most recent position, held since 2021, was VP of the company’s Cardiac Implantables Technology Development Center.
Medtronic’s Cardiovascular business is presently on a tear, driven by the success of its Affera pulsed-field ablation technology, leadless Micra pacemakers, and more. When the company disclosed Street-beating second-quarter results on Nov. 18, the Cardiovascular business led the way with 10.8% year-over-year sales growth.
