The new full visual range IOL offers a continuous, full range of vision, enabling sight from far, near and in between. It minimzes the need for glasses for those with presbyiopia, according to a news relesae.
J&J built the IOL on its existing Tecnis platform. The company said it provides two-times better contrast in low lighting compared to the Alcon PanOptix IOL. It also touts the ability for patients to read 14% smaller print on average compared to PanOptix users. Additionally, 93% of users reported zero or mild halos, glare or starbursts one month after surgery.
The company said it built Tecnis Odyssey with proprietary technology that results in superior image quality. It delivers sharp vision even in challenging lighting conditions, plus fewer visual disturbances. Johnson & Johnson says 94% of patients reported satisfaction with their overall vision without glasses.
Additionally, 96% of patients reported satisfaction with reading a smartphone or tablet and 97% were satisfied with distance vision. The company reports 92% satisfaction with the ability to see steps at night and read street signs at night.
“More than 14,000 eyes have already benefited from Tecnis Odyssey, our new full visual range IOL. Tecnis Odyssey patients have reported outstanding visual outcomes following surgery, which is why we are excited to announce we are expanding the roll-out across the U.S. today,” said Peter Menziuso, group chair, Vision, J&J. “Cataract surgery gives patients a once in a lifetime opportunity to improve their sight, and now with this advanced IOL, patients can see clearly at every distance, without the need for glasses.”
