Johnson & Johnson MedTech sales grow 4.5% in Street-beating Q2, ups guidance

Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) today reported second-quarter results that topped Wall Street expectations as the company also raised its 2026 guidance.

Despite the positive earnings report, JNJ shares were down more than 2% to $248.35 apiece by the afternoon. The S&P 500 was up slightly.

The New Brunswick, New Jersey–based pharma and medtech giant reported profits of $5.5 billion. That equals $2.27 per share on sales of $25.3 billion for the three months ended June 30, 2026.

J&J’s bottom line hardly moved on a sales increase of 6.6%.

Adjusted to exclude one-time items, earnings per share came in at $2.90. That landed 5¢ ahead of expectations on Wall Street. Sales also topped the forecast as experts projected $25.1 billion in revenue.

MedTech sales of $8.9 billion marked a 4.5% rise from the previous year. J&J attributed growth to wound closure products and biosurgery products in the Surgery business, electrophysiology products (like pulsed field ablation) and Shockwave in Cardiovascular, contact lenses in Vision and trauma in Orthopaedics. The company noted that net acquisitions and divestitures negatively impacted MedTech growth.

Johnson & Johnson increased both its revenue and adjusted EPS guidance for the full year. It now expects sales between $100.8 billion and $101.4 billion, rising from a range of $100.3 billion to $101.3 billion. The company projects adjusted EPS between $11.60 and $11.75, increasing from the prior guidance of between $11.45 and $11.65.

“Johnson & Johnson delivered strong second-quarter results, demonstrating the power of our innovation, the depth of our portfolio and the momentum in our pipeline as we advance transformative treatments that address the world’s toughest health challenges,” said Joaquin Duato, J&J’s chair and CEO. “With raised guidance and quarterly sales surpassing $25 billion, we are on track to meet our 2026 target of more than $100 billion in annual revenue for the first time in our company’s 140-year history.”

Mike Matson and other analysts at Needham & Co. were positive about J&J’s Q2 report: “JNJ management noted that they are not seeing any evidence of a broad-based slowdown in demand in the MedTech business. … We view the … results and management commentary as positive for our medtech coverage universe.”
