Johnson & Johnson MedTech (NYSE: JNJ) announced today that it launched its VOLT (variable angle optimized locking technology) plating system.

The company says its system marks an evolution in fracture management solutions. J&J designed VOLT to improve stability, enhance performance and increase efficiency.

In addition to its locking technology, VOLT offers an expanded range of plate shapes, lengths and screw lengths. This helps accommodate different fracture reduction and fixation needs. The company aimed to minimize prominence with VOLT’s design, reducing the risk of soft tissue irritation.

The system also features a versatile tray design for multiple set configurations based on clinical requirements. It has color-coded instruments to simplify identification with the goal of improving surgical workflow efficiency.

VOLT offers enhanced construct stability with its precision threaded locking. Its mechanism utilizes tightly toleranced screw hole threads to improve plate-to-screw engagement. J&J says this provides the stability of Locking Compression Plating while allowing for flexible variable angles. The company plans to offer it in both stainless steel and titanium forms.

Johnson & Johnson received FDA clearance for its VOLT Mini and Small fragment plating systems and now offers them commercially. It plans to launch its distal radius and proximal humerus versions of VOLT in 2025 with additional anatomical plating solutions to follow.

“The launch of the VOLT plating system underscores our leadership in trauma care and marks the next chapter in our long-standing commitment to innovation,” said Aldo Denti, company group chair, orthopedics, J&J MedTech. “For over 50 years, we’ve been driving advancements in fracture management, and this system exemplifies our dedication to providing surgeons with the strongest, most comprehensive and versatile solutions to address the varied needs and achieve the best possible patient outcomes.”
