Physicians at the Hospital da Luz in Lisbon treated patients using the advanced Genesis robotic magnetic navigation (RMN) system. This marks the second major hospital adoption for Genesis this month, following treatments at the University of Kansas Health System.
Genesis delivers the benefits of robotic precision and safety to cardiac ablation to treat arrhythmias.
“We are excited to be at the forefront of technology and patient care by introducing the new Genesis System at Hospital da Luz,” said Dr. Pedro Adragão, cardiac electrophysiologist at Hospital da Luz. “Robotics allows us to treat patients with effective individualized therapy and the highest focus on safety. We are pleased to offer this high-level care to all our patients, including those with the most complex arrhythmia. We also are pleased to continue advancing this important technology for the benefit of patients and medical progress.”
Genesis utilizes smaller magnets that rotate along their center of mass, allowing for responsiveness to physician control. Flexible, rugged robotic arms hold the agents to increase the potential range of motion and allow for wider X-ray angulation.
A hospital in Kentucky performed the first procedures with the Genesis surgical robotic system late last year. Stereotaxis also has an ongoing surgical robotics collaboration with Abbott, which had milestone developments last fall. The company features on MassDevice’s 2024 list of 10 surgical robotics companies you need to know.
“We are delighted to expand our long-term relationship with Prof. Adragão and Hospital da Luz,” said David Fischel, chair and CEO of Stereotaxis. “We look forward to supporting their efforts to improve patient care, advance clinical science, and pioneer robotic innovation.”
