Hawkins led Shockwave through the development of its intravascular lithotripsy technology from 2007 until 2017. Johnson & Johnson MedTech acquired Shockwave for $13 billion in 2024; it recently rebranded the business. Hawkins was also senior director of marketing at surgical robotics pioneer Intuitive during its early years and has held executive and board positions across a range of medtech companies.
According to Solenic Medical, Hawkins will work closely with Bart Bandy, the company’s CEO, and its board of directors as it advances the SOLA-2 system through pivotal clinical evaluation and navigates other strategic initiatives. Solenic is initially developing its proprietary Alternating Magnetic Field (AMF) technology to address periprosthetic joint infections, a serious complication of joint replacement surgery. The FDA approved Solenic’s Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) application in June.
“We are pleased to welcome Daniel as chairman of our board as he brings a rare combination of technical innovation and growth strategy experience to the table,” Bandy said in a news release posted yesterday. “As we enter this important phase of pivotal clinical development, his perspective will be invaluable as we execute our clinical and regulatory strategy while positioning Solenic for the company’s commercial objectives. Daniel shares our commitment to innovation and, most importantly, to developing solutions that can make a meaningful difference for patients, clinicians and healthcare systems.”
Said Hawkins: “Solenic is addressing a significant unmet clinical problem with a first-in-category technology developed by an experienced team dedicated to bringing it to patients worldwide. I look forward to working with Bart and the Board as the company advances its broader strategy and works to realize the full potential of the technology.”
