Hologic (Nasdaq: HOLX) today announced a series of activities for October — Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The slate of activities promotes the importance of breast cancer screenings. It includes a global partnership with Know Your Lemons, a non-profit committed to improving early breast cancer detection. Know Your Lemons provides creative and empowering education on the topic.

Marlborough, Massachusetts-based Hologic kicks things off on Oct. 2. Steve MacMillan, chair, president and CEO, will wring the Nasdaq opening bell that day. Hologic employees, plus tennis legend and two-time breast cancer survivor Martina Navratilova, will join MacMillan.

“For the past 17 years, Hologic has rung the Nasdaq bell at the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month to draw attention to the impact breast cancer has on our communities and to highlight the enduring need for broader awareness about the critical importance of regular screenings and early detection,” said MacMillan. “We are thrilled to be joined again at the bell ringing by tennis great Martina Navratilova, who has inspired so many as a phenomenal athlete and now as an advocate for cancer awareness and women’s health.”

More about Hologic, Know Your Lemons and Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Know Your Lemonsa aims to provide symptom and screening education for breast cancer detection in a fun, accessible and inclusive way. Hologic said its partnership represents part of a broader campaign called “#KnowBreastCancer.” It leverages creative imagery from Know Your Lemons founder Corinne Ellsworth-Beaumont.

The partnership utilizes dynamic posters for use in healthcare providers’ offices, plus sponsored content on the Know Your Lemons app. This content explains the importance of self-exams. Both organizations intend to put custom content on their social media channels and in multiple languages, too.

“We’ve long admired the work done by Know Your Lemons to provide resources to women worldwide to help them understand breast health and breast cancer risk factors,” said Erik Anderson, President of Hologic’s breast and skeletal health solutions division. “As the global leader in mammography, we know how important accessible screening education is and we’re confident this campaign with Know Your Lemons will have a meaningful impact during Breast Cancer Awareness Month and beyond.”

Hologic has a number of ongoing partnerships centered around this type of amplification of breast cancer awareness.

Earlier this month, the company teamed up with Bayer to deliver contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) solutions. In May, the company announced a partnership with NFL player Kelee Ringo to raise mammogram awareness.
