Mitria Medical is joining up with the Silicon Valley medtech incubator T45 Labs and bringing on a new CEO as it looks to develop its minimally invasive implant for repairing the heart’s mitral valve.
The startup announced earlier this year the first implantation of its transcatheter subvalvular spacer, or SVS, delivered under the FDA’s compassionate use protocols.
The novel device includes a nitinol braid placed underneath a failing valve leaflet, to support its closure and reestablish sealing in patients with mitral regurgitation. That procedure was performed at the Cleveland Clinic, which founded Mitria in 2019. The company reported that six patients have received the implant to date.
Now part of T45’s portfolio, Mitria will also see the incubator’s founder and managing partner, Marwan Berrada-Sounni, serve as its new CEO.
“The Cleveland Clinic Innovations program nurtured the promising SVS technology, and we look forward to advancing the development and clinical evaluation backed by T45 Labs’ hands-on operating model, cardiovascular expertise, and company development acumen,” Berrada-Sounni said in a statement.

The Santa Clara, California-based T45 has focused on supporting cardiovascular developers, including Advanced NanoTherapies and its dual drug-coated coronary balloon; VahatiCor, with its coronary sinus reducer for microvascular dysfunction; and the intravascular ultrasound imaging company Nuevo Sono.
Berrada-Sounni, who is also listed as CEO or co-founder of those three companies, previously served as senior director of product development at the Cleveland Clinic’s Global Cardiovascular Innovations Center.
T45 closed a $25 million financing for its first fund in March 2025. Advanced NanoTherapies, meanwhile, posted a $31 million series B round in June.
