Fast Five by MassDevice · Cala Health, Cue Health have layoffs, Noah Surgical’s first U.S. procedure using surgical robot

Companies often make strategic decisions to divest non-core businesses to optimize their focus and resources on areas where they have a competitive advantage. Bioventus’ recent completion of the wound business divestiture marks a strategic move to streamline its focus and resources on core areas of expertise. Fast Five hosts Sean Whooley and Danielle Kirsh discuss the financial details of the divestiture.

The FDA’s approval of another nasal spray for treating opioid overdose represents a positive step in combatting the ongoing opioid crisis. This nasal spray offers a user-friendly, non-invasive method for delivering life-saving medication to individuals experiencing opioid-related emergencies. Whooley details the approval and the optimism FDA Commissioner Robert Califf has.

The successful completion of the first surgical procedure in the U.S. using the Noah Medical surgical robot marks a significant milestone in robotic-assisted surgery. These robots incorporate advanced technologies, including robotic arms, high-definition imaging, and precise instrument control, to enhance surgical precision and enable minimally invasive techniques. Kirsh and Whooley explain Noah Medical’s surgical robot and what doctors think about the technology.

BD expanded its availability of all-in-one flush pre-filled syringes. These pre-filled syringes offer healthcare providers a ready-to-use, standardized approach for flushing catheters and maintaining catheter patency. Whooley gives an inside look at how the syringes work and how it will streamline workflows for healthcare providers as they continue to face the burden of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cala Health and Cue Health recently announced layoffs in California. Layoffs, while unfortunate, can occur in companies due to various factors, such as restructuring, shifting business priorities, or economic circumstances. These decisions are often made to ensure the long-term viability and competitiveness of the companies involved. Whooley provides more details about the layoffs, including how many workers are affected and when the layoffs will take effect.
