The University of Minnesota Medical School sent a warning letter to spinal surgeon Dr. David Polly after he failed to disclose payments received from med-tech titan Medtronic (NYSE:MDT).
Polly violated several of the University’s conflict of interest disclosure requirements by not divulging payments he received from the Fridley, Minn.-based medical device giant in two published journal articles and on one research poster, according to the university.

MASSDEVICE ON CALL — Doctors with a financial interest in imaging equipment may order more unnecessary tests, according to a study by the Radiological Society of North America.
Patients that were referred for scans by docs who owned their own equipment had 86% more negative scans than patients referred by doctors with no financial stake in the equipment.

Japanese authorities raided the homes and offices of Olympus Corp. (TYO:7733) employees in the latest act of the probe into the $1.7 billion accounting scandal the company admitted to last month.

Judge overturns Smith & Nephew’s $85M patent win over Arthrex
Smith & Nephew (NYSE:SNN) saw its $85 million patent win against Arthrex Inc. overturned this week, after an Oregon judge ruled that Arthrex didn’t infringe on SNN’s surgical anchor patents.
The latest round in the 7-year-old patent lawsuit found that "no reasonable jury could possibly find that Arthrex infringed in this case," including via indirect infringement.
