With his appointment, Salmon will also serve on the audit committee and compensation committee for the Laguna Hills, California-based company, which develops cryoablation technology for treating cardiovascular diseases.
Adagio built its vCLAS cryoablation catheter on its proprietary ultra-low cryoablation technology (ULCT). It aims to address the challenges of ventricular tachycardia (VT) ablations, comprising part of the Adagio VT cryoablation system.
vCLAS picked up FDA breakthrough device designation earlier this year. Prior to that, the company also executed a restructuring effort to prioritize FULCRUM-VT. With layoffs included, the restructuring also centered focus on a new product design optimization program. The company recently entered into a securities purchase agreement worth up to $50 million in proceeds as well.
Salmon retired from Medtronic in September after a more than 20-year tenure at the medtech giant.
Most recently, Salmon served as EVP and president of the company’s Cardiovascular portfolio. He previously led Cardiovascular and Diabetes as president before shifting his focus to just Cardiovascular in 2022.
During his time at Medtronic, Salmon built expertise across electrophysiology therapies, including surgical and catheter-based ablation. He led several strategic initiatives in this space, including the company’s acquisition of Affera, leading to the success of the company’s pulsed field ablation (PFA) technology.
Commentary from Salmon and Adagio CEO Todd Usen
