Ortho and surgery tech giant Stryker recently sold its former headquarters site in Kalamazoo, Michigan for $3.5 million, according to city property records.
The sale closed Oct. 31, with a Bronson Healthcare system affiliate purchasing the two-story, 80,064-square-foot office building at 2825 Airview Boulevard.
Bronson describes itself as the largest employer and leading healthcare system in southwest Michigan, with over 100 locations, 9,000 employees, 1,500 medical staff members, and 747 licensed beds. Crain’s Grand Rapids Business reports that a Bronson official said there were no immediate plans for the former Stryker site but that the purchase would accommodate the health system’s growth.
Stryker, the fifth-largest medical device company in the world, officially moved its headquarters in 2023 to a new campus about 6 miles away in Portage. First announced in the 2010s, the Portage campus at 1941 Stryker Way includes a 157,124-square-foot office building and a 270,547-square-foot laboratories building, according to property records. Local news reports say it grew into a $154 million project when ground broke in 2017.
The Stryker annual report for its most recent fiscal year says it has roughly 28 company-owned and 294 leased locations worldwide, including 43 manufacturing locations.
Even with its headquarters officially in Portage, Stryker’s top leadership and finance people are actually spread out among the company’s various business unit locations, MedSurg and Neurotechnology Group President Andy Pierce explained at our DeviceTalks West event last month. The idea is to ensure that company leaders are more immersed onsite in technological innovation, M&A strategizing, working with health provider customers, and more.
