SS Innovations today announced it completed its first telesurgery procedure using its SSI Mantra surgical robotic system.
The procedure was conducted at the SS Innovations headquarters in Gurugram, Haryana, India, on an animal that was 5 km away at the World Laparoscopy Hospital. A team of surgeons, led by SS Innovations’ Founder and CEO, Dr. Sudhir Srivastava, completed a radical nephrectomy, cystectomy, cholecystectomy, and prostatectomy.

Mantra offers a cost-effective option for a range of surgical applications. It has regulatory approval in India, Indonesia and Guatemala. The company has initiated the regulatory process in the U.S. and Europe as well. It hopes for approvals in the latter half of 2024 or 2025.
The system provides capabilities for multi-specialty uses. Its uses span cardiothoracic, head and neck, gynecology, urology, general surgery and more. The system features a modular, 3D vision, open-console design with superior ergonomics. It engages machine learning models to improve safety and efficiency during procedures.
SSi Mantra is clinically validated for over 50 different surgical procedures, and, to date, more than 900 surgical procedures have been conducted using the system.
In March, the company announced that Mantra was used to perform a mitral valve replacement successfully.
