Smith+Nephew launches next-gen foam dressing for wound management, pressure injury

Smith+Nephew (NYSE: SNN) announced today that it launched its Allevyn Complete Care foam dressing for wound management and pressure injury prevention.

Allevyn Complete Care features proprietary technologies that comprise a unique five-layer construction. It offers a distinct mode-of-action technology targeted toward both wound management and pressure injury prevention. The London-based orthopedic giant designed it to minimize leakage and disruption by fewer dressing changes while protecting vulnerable skin.

Smith+Nephew says its proprietary technologies have advanced capabilities designed to help clinicians care with confidence. This includes the ability to lock in significantly more exudate than other foam dressings, the company says. It also keeps more than 99% of bacteria away from the wound bed, minimizing leakage and enabling longer wear times for undisturbed healing.

Unbonded sliding layers within the dressing absorb up to 93% of mechanical energy to reduce the risk of pressure injury by more than 65%.

Smith+Nephew offers the dressing in five different shapes and a variety of sizes to meet a range of wound care needs. Its initial launch covers the U.S., while it expects to launch in Europe and other European markets this year.

“Allevyn Complete Care is a true next-generation dressing that reflects our continued commitment to wound care innovation, delivering meaningful benefit where it matters most,” said Rohit Kashyap, president of Advanced Wound Management at Smith+Nephew. “Every dressing is designed for strong performance in both wound treatment and pressure injury prevention, helping patients get back to what they love, whilst reducing the costly and complex clinical burden.”
