Intuitive stock slides as US da Vinci procedures slow, despite sales gains

While Intuitive (NASDAQ: ISRG) posted strong revenue gains in its third-quarter earnings, it faced high expectations from Wall Street for procedure growth, which ultimately dragged its stock price down about 10% on the report.

Quarterly revenue topped $3.05 billion, gaining 22% compared to 2025’s $2.51 billion and beating analysts’ estimates.

That was backed by the placements of 546 da Vinci systems, including 315 for the latest da Vinci 5, up year-over-year from counts of 427 and 240, respectively. The company now boasts 12,094 installed da Vinci robots worldwide.

But at the same time, the growth rate in U.S. da Vinci procedures slowed to 10%, following 12% in the second quarter and 14% to start off the year. Overseas, procedure growth held steady at 20%, largely in line with 2026 to date.

The company also placed 56 of its Ion endoluminal systems globally, compared with 50 in last year’s third quarter, along with 31% growth in procedures.

Net income fell to $523 million, or $1.49 per diluted share, versus 2025’s $704 million and $1.95 per share.

“Our strong performance this quarter was marked by broad-based adoption across our multi-port, single-port, and Ion platforms, with customers using our systems to perform, on average, over 10,000 procedures per day throughout the period,” Intuitive CEO Dave Rosa said in a statement. “Looking ahead, we will remain focused on serving customers across geographies and sites of care, enabling them to deliver better patient care, outcomes, and experiences, reduce the total cost of care, and expand access to minimally invasive care.”

The company also announced it would pay $450 million to settle a years-long class action suit, which claimed Intuitive was stifling competition among aftermarket service providers by making itself the exclusive repair provider for da Vinci machines and its instruments. The settlement is pending final court approval.

Intuitive’s stock fell to about $393 per share following the news, before climbing back to about $425, below yesterday’s high of $439.

Still, the company has room to grow with the FDA and European green lights it obtained this year for cardiac surgeries, including valve replacements, revascularizations and procedures for repairing structural defects.

Looking ahead, Intuitive said it expects worldwide da Vinci procedure growth in 2026 to land around 14.5%, in a narrower range in line with previous guidance, with gross profit margins increasing to about 69%.
