Siemens Healthineers, SSM ink deal to improve health equity

August 14, 2023 By Sean Whooley

Siemens Healthineers logoSSM Health and Siemens Healthineers announced today that they entered into a 10-year strategic partnership focused on health equity.

The companies aim to expand access to high-quality care and aid in training the next generation of healthcare workers. Siemens Healthineers says the agreement marks its largest geographic strategic partnership to date.

SSM Health, a fully integrated healthcare delivery system, provides a value-driven care model to communities in the Midwest region of the U.S. Siemens Healthineers intends to supply SSM with access to its latest innovations and best practices in diagnostic imaging. The agreement also includes the company’s state-of-the-art technology and software, plus education and on-site support.

More details of the partnership between Siemens Healthineers and SSM Health

Siemens Healthineers said the companies aim to enhance quality, efficiency and access to diagnostic imaging services in select communities. SSM operates in Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma and Wisconsin. To advance health equity, the organizations also plan to invest in programs to expand early detection and chronic disease management. They intend to provide this for underserved and vulnerable individuals in the communities served by SSM.

“Our partnership with SSM Health will serve the local communities, taking into account the social and environmental determinants that influence patient health in support of long-term well-being,” said David Pacitti, president and head of the Americas, Siemens Healthineers. “This relationship underscores our mutual commitment to providing quality care and making a positive impact in the lives of everyone, everywhere.”

SSM already has an existing relationship with Siemens Healthineers’ Varian business. It plans to expand that relationship with a tailored set of offerings from Varian’s advanced oncology solutions portfolio.

The partnership plans to address a critical shortage of radiologic technologists by implementing local imaging apprenticeship programs. They plan to begin with the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis.

“At SSM Health, we are working to ensure all people have access to high-quality, compassionate, and affordable care, but we can’t do this alone,” said Jeremy Fotheringham, regional president, SSM Health. “Siemens Healthineers shares our deep-rooted commitment to innovation, quality, and value. We are thrilled to partner with them in our mission to transform healthcare delivery and address the health equity gap in our communities.”
