Philips (NYSE: PHG) recently announced it is bringing in an executive from a German pharma giant as its new chief technology and innovation officer, effective Sept. 15.

Laura Matz has served as chief science and technology officer at Merck KGaA in Darmstadt, Germany, since 2021. Shez Partovi, who has been Philips’ chief innovation and strategy officer since 2021, will move to a new chief AI officer role at the Dutch medtech giant.

Philips CEO Roy Jakobs announced the appointments on LinkedIn last week.

“These appointments strengthen our executive committee as we accelerate our plan to drive profitable growth to deliver sustainable value. They sharpen our focus on creating more value through innovation and AI so we can deliver better care for more people,” Jakobs said.

Jakobs noted that Partovi will remain on the executive committee and continue as business leader of Enterprise Informatics. “As Chief AI Officer, he will guide our transformation into a people-led, AI-powered company.”

Of Matz, Jakobs said: “Laura brings deep experience at the intersection of science, technology, business and digital transformation across life sciences, healthcare and electronics. She will lead Philips’ enterprise innovation and technology agenda, helping businesses scale through our advanced design, engineering and technology capabilities and platforms.”
