Olympus announced today that it launched its next-generation Visera Elite III surgical imaging platform in the U.S.
The company designed its platform to enhance surgical visualization, workflow efficiency, and multispecialty flexibility. It labels Visera Elite III a “significant leap forward in surgical imaging.” It marks the third major co-developed product by its joint venture with Sony (Sony Olympus Medical or SOMED).
Visera Elite III integrates advanced imaging technologies into a software-driven platform to bring light, color and clarity to the body. It supports minimally invasive surgeries in a wide range of specialties. That includes arthroscopy, colorectal, ENT, bariatric, thoracic, gynecological, urological, HPB transplant and general surgery.
Advanced features include True 4K and 3D imaging, Continuous Auto Focus (CAF), Narrow Band Imaging (NBI) technology, Yellow Enhancement (YE), EndoEye rigid and flexible videoscopes, and Fluorescence-Guided Surgery (IR/ICG) — now in full 4K White Light and high contrast Magenta Mode.
Olympus said all features now come in a single system that may improve workflow and support clinical decision-making.
“Visera Elite III is more than a platform — it’s a strategic enabler for modern operating rooms and is a cornerstone of Olympus’ See. Treat. Connect. ecosystem,” said Darryl Rock, VP and Surgical Solutions regional business lead at Olympus Corporation of the Americas. “Its software-based architecture allows hospitals to scale capabilities while controlling capital investment and selectively activate advanced features like 3D and infrared imaging as needed. By seamlessly integrating data into electronic health records and IT systems, Visera Elite III may facilitate flexibility and clinical workflow and enable clinicians to focus on what matters most — delivering high-quality care while optimizing their investment.”
Benefits of the new Olympus system
Olympus says its new system offers comprehensive advanced imaging.
The system’s 3D imaging with horizon lock reduces surgical suturing time compared to 2D imaging. It also may enhance laparoscopic precision, the company says. Meanwhile, IR/ICG imaging provides visualization for perfusion assessment and resection margin accuracy, potentially reducing anastomotic leak rate.
Multiple IR modes, proprietary high-efficiency LED and adjustable IR gain optimize fluorescence visibility, Olympus says. Meanwhile, sharp images through multiple functions help to never lose focus, while the platform enables seamless EHR integration and automates workflows.
Olympus said Visera Elite III supports its comprehensive multispecialty scope portfolio. That includes rigid and flexible videoscopes, 3D, and EndoEye video laparoscopes.
