CMS recently finalized its 2026 Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (HOPPS) and Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Rule. Within its rule, it assigned the CPT code (64568) for Nyxoah’s Genio hypoglossal nerve stimulation implants to New Technology Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC) 1580.
This means that, effective Jan. 1, 2026, outpatient hospital reimbursement for the company’s Genio system rises to $45,000 (a 48% rise from 2025). ASC reimbursement increases to $42,373, reflecting a 58% increase compared to 2025.
Mont-Saint-Guibert, Belgium-based company said the updates strengthen the foundation supporting its therapy adoption across the U.S. It enables the continued expansion in outpatient and ASC settings as the company moves into 2026. Genio now has a stronger reimbursement framework supporting broader adoption, increased procedural throughput and expansion across Medicare-heavy institutions.
Genio utilizes an implanted electrode around the hypoglossal nerve. It stimulates the tongue and keeping the airway open to treat obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Nyxoah directly competes with Inspire Medical in the sleep respiratory market with their CPAP alternatives. Genio received FDA in August, pitting it directly against the Inspire devices. Unlike Inspire’s system, it doesn’t require leads, with a wearable providing power for the electrode through the skin. The two companies remain embroiled in a patent spat over their technologies as well.
Nyxoah stresses that its single-incision procedure is well-suited for the ASC environment. The increase in ASC facility payment creates new opportunities for therapy expansion and site-of-service diversification, it said. This marks the latest boost for ASCs, with CMS also covering cardiac ablation in the setting as part of its 2026 rule.
“CMS’ decision to significantly increase reimbursement for CPT 64568 reinforces the growing recognition of hypoglossal nerve stimulation as a high-value therapy for obstructive sleep apnea,” commented Olivier Taelman, Nyxoah CEO.“ The new rates create a more favorable environment for expanding access to our Genio therapy across both outpatient hospitals and ASCs.”
