Medtronic enters AI-powered stroke care partnership

April 2, 2025 By Sean Whooley

This image shows the logo of Medtronic.Medtronic (NYSE: MDT) recently announced a partnership with Methinks AI to enhance stroke treatment in a number of geographies.

The collaboration supporting Medtronic’s Neurovascular business spans Central and Eastern Europe, Africa, Türkiye and the Middle East. The companies declined to disclose financial terms.

Methinks AI offers AI-driven radiological triage and notification systems for enhancing stroke treatment. Medtronic says the collaboration highlights the critical role of services and solutions in optimizing procedural support and patient pathways in stroke care.

This partnership adds to a collaboration the medtech giant inked with Brainomix earlier this year. That collaboration aims to enhance stroke care for patients across Western Europe. Brainomix and Medtronic plan to integrate AI solutions into clinical practice to expand access to life-changing treatments.

According to a news release, Methinks AI solutions can detect more than 80% of large vessel occlusions using only non-contrast CT imaging. This ensures faster assessment, even in settings with limited access to advanced imaging technologies. Methinks AI also has a partnership with Microsoft to enhance its technology’s scalability and acessibility.

Medtronic believes its latest partnership can streamline the connectivity between stroke centers and regional hospitals to enable seamless triage and care coordination. It expects the integration of AI with its products to accelerate therapy adoption and increase efficiency.

“At Medtronic, we are committed to providing innovative solutions that extend beyond traditional product offerings. This partnership reinforces our commitment to support healthcare professionals with advanced stroke care tools, ensuring faster and more effective treatment for patients across the region and transforming stroke care by combining breakthrough AI assessment with world-class medical device solutions”, said Maria Zvereva, Neurovascular strategic marketing leader in CEMA region at Medtronic.
