Occam Labs is the medical device incubator that hatched Capstan Medical, the surgical robotics startup for structural heart led by former Intuitive veterans Dan Wallace and Maggie Nixon.
Wallace, who founded Capstan and serves as its chief technology officer, also co-founded Occam Labs. Capstan and Occam Labs are both based in Santa Cruz, California.
Capstan Medical had raised more than $40 million as of April and planned for another funding round sometime in 2024, Nixon said in an interview with Medical Design & Outsourcing earlier this year.
Intuitive announced King’s departure today on the company’s Q3 earnings call, saying the search for his replacement has started.
“We appreciate his contributions over the past nine years and wish him well in his next endeavor,” Intuitive Investor Relations Senior Manager Brandon Lamm said at the top of the call.
King joined Sunnyvale, California-based Intuitive in March 2015. On LinkedIn, he listed September 2024 as the end of his Intuitive career and the start of his new job.
In July, Intuitive disclosed the departure of Global Business Services EVP Marshall Mohr on the Q2 earnings call, saying he would leave the company in September. Intuitive CEO Gary Guthart said CFO Jamie Samath would expand his responsibilities to include leading Intuitive’s information technology and global facilities teams due to Mohr’s exit.
