Hyperfine, Nvidia partner on AI-powered neuroimaging

Hyperfine (Nasdaq:HYPR) announced today that it entered into a strategic collaboration with Nvidia to leverage its AI expertise.

The collaboration aims to apply Nvidia AI and accelerated computing to enhance Hyperfine’s portable imaging technology. It could make brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) faster, smarter and more affordable on a global scale.

The news was part of a host of medtech AI announcements this week as Nvidia holds its GTC 2025 event in San Jose, California. (We have a full roundup of medtech AI news out of Nvidia’s “Super Bowl of AI.”)

Guildford, Connecticut-based Hyperfine develops Swoop, the world’s first FDA-cleared, portable, ultra-low-field, brain MRI system. Hyperfine aims to leverage AI and machine learning to advance ultra-low-field portable MR brain imaging technology and improve patient care.

The companies plan to advance AI-powered image reconstruction and embed real-time clinical decision support into portable MRI workflow. Nvidia’s advanced suite of training and inference tools could further improve Swoop’s image quality, according to a news release. It may also lead to faster, more reliable diagnoses.

“Our mission is to make portable brain imaging faster, more intelligent, and increasingly accessible—ultimately improving health outcomes and reducing costs globally,” said Maria Sainz, president and CEO of Hyperfine. “Partnering with NVIDIA presents an incredible opportunity to advance and accelerate our AI technology. I’m thrilled about the possibilities this collaboration brings for the future.”

Nvidia, a leader in AI computing, has worked with a number of medtech companies to incorporate AI into their technologies. Johnson & Johnson MedTech announced last year that it plans to accelerate and scale AI for surgery in partnership with Nvidia. GE HealthCare and Nvidia partnered to bring AI to ultrasound technology in March 2024 as well.

Asensus Surgical linked up with Nvidia in 2023 to deliver novel clinical intelligence to surgeons in surgical robotics. Medtronic also partnered with Nvidia to enable an AI Access platform to boost the GI Genius intelligent endoscopy module’s capabilities.
