The agreement aims to build advanced capabilities across URMC’s footprint in upstate New York. This includes a center of excellence in the center’s Imaging Sciences department, plus diagnostic tracer production for molecular imaging applications and the standardization of patient monitoring across the health system.
GE HealthCare’s Care Alliances are enterprise partnerships that feature multi-year collaborations to enhance financial and operational efforts. The Chicago-based company helps healthcare systems prioritize scalability and flexibility to support growth, stability and adaptability amid an evolving market with changing needs. Catherine Estrampes, president & CEO of U.S. & Canada at GE HealthCare, recently spoke to MassDevice about the goals of these partnerships.
Recent enterprise deals include a 14-year partnership with UC San Diego Health inked this month, as well as a seven-year deal with Sutter Health. The company also recently inked AI-based partnerships with two health systems.
GE HealthCare’s latest Care Alliance spans seven years, expanding on an existing relationship with URMC. The organizations plan to implement efficiencies across the system to help decrease burdens on IT, biomed and clinicians. Additionally, they hope to standardize equipment throughout the health system.

The Care Alliance supports URMC’s Imaging Sciences center of excellence by adding a range of diagnostic imaging solutions. It includes upgrades to existing MRI systems and new MRI systems with on-device AI applications.
GE HealthCare offers the Continuum+ package for ongoing software upgrades as technology becomes available. URMC also plans to install one of the first Aurora SPECT/CTs in the U.S. The dual-energy CT can deliver single-heartbeat cardiac scans. Additionally, the center will add the Logiq E10 ultrasound portfolio.
The partnership also includes a radiopharmaceutical and theranostics program for precision medicine. URMC plans to obtain an on-site cyclotron for patient care and innovative research to advance this. This can enable in-house production of short-lived radioisotopes for advanced imaging techniques like PET scans.
Finally, the deal includes the full standardization of patient monitoring at URMC across bedside monitors, telemetry, central monitoring and networking and connectivity solutions. This includes solutions from across GE HealthCare’s Carescape monitoring portfolio.
The company says that adding Carescape helps to address administrative burdens with simplified workflows. It could save clinicians time and reduce alarm fatigue, enhancing clinical decision-making.
