Distalmotion makes its first multirobot sale in the U.S.

Distalmotion has made its first multi-system sale in the U.S., with AdventHealth purchasing several Dexter surgical robotic systems to expand minimally invasive procedures in its outpatient department.

AdventHealth, which runs 50 hospitals in nine states, has already completed its first cases with Dexter.

“We’re excited to have completed our first cases with Dexter as we bring robotic surgery to our outpatient department. As we expand our capabilities, we’re focused on solutions that align with our goals for flexibility and efficiency,” said Dr. Carlos Ortiz-Ortiz, general surgeon at AdventHealth Celebration.

Distalmotion said demand for surgical robotics is rising as high-volume soft-tissue procedures such as inguinal hernia repair and cholecystectomy shift to outpatient settings. The company designed Dexter to meet those needs with a compact, mobile footprint that can be easily moved between operating rooms.

The system’s sterile console lets surgeons perform bedside tasks and immediately return to robotic control without redocking, while its open architecture is compatible with existing instruments and visualization systems.

“This multi-system sale underscores how health systems are seeking more flexible solutions that bring the benefits of robotics to ORs across their sites of care,” Distalmotion CEO Greg Roche said in a news release. “DEXTER is designed to meet the realities of outpatient surgery, without compromising existing practices.”

Distalmotion said more than 2,000 Dexter procedures have been performed worldwide in general, gynecological and urological surgery. In the United States, the robot is authorized for adult laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair and cholecystectomy.
