He will be joining DePuy Synthes’ Global Digital Surgery and Commercial Excellence team.
On LinkedIn, the longtime J&J leader said:
“I’m delighted to announce that I’ve begun a new chapter as Upstream Marketing Director, Robotics Platforms at DePuy Synthes. This role gives me the privilege of serving as the commercial innovation lead for all robotics platforms across our Business Units.”
Burton has spent more than a decade across several roles at Johnson & Johnson MedTech. Those include recent stints as director of marketing for Velys digital surgery – hip & knee innovation & strategy lead, and, most recently, director of EMEA marketing. He has been a part of DePuy Synthes for longer, joining the company when it was DePuy Orthopaedics as a senior bioengineer in 2006, according to his LinkedIn page.
The appointment comes as J&J looks to separate the DePuy Synthes business in a deal valued at around $20 million. The business continues to make strides, though, recently acquiring radiofrequency tracking technology and launching a new platform for Velys called Velys Hip Navigation with AI Assistance in the U.S.
Velys, the company’s robotic orthopedic surgery system, won its first FDA clearance for total knee surgery in 2021. It also holds FDA clearance for unicompartmental knee arthroplasty and offers use in hip, shoulder and spine procedures.
“I’m truly excited by the opportunity to work with talented teams around the world to advance robotic-enabled surgery and create lasting value for patients and healthcare systems,” Burton said.
