Healthsense looks to drum up $1.2 million
Healthsense Inc., a company using technology to monitor the health and wellness of senior citizens, is hoping to raise another $1.2 million, according to a Securities & Exchange Commission filing.
The Mendota Heights, Minn.-based company markets an “eNeighbor” system that uses wireless technology to monitor senior citizens in real time. It includes motion detectors that can detect when someone’s left a bed or flushed a toilet, or call buttons to check in on a regular basis or contact a nurse.

Five things the GOP budget would do to healthcare
- Health care agencies get cut across the board: The Obama Administration looked to boost budgets at the Centers for Disease Control, the Food & Drug Administration and the National Institutes for Health. This is not the case under the GOP plan, which calls for a $1.6 billion cut to current NIH funding, a $1.39 billion cut to CDC’s budget, $458 million from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid bottom line and a $241 million cut from the current FDA budget for good measure.

FDA warns Steris on improper marketing
Decontamination technologies maker Steris Corp. (NYSE:STE) struggles with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration continue, as the agency cited the company for making improper marketing claims about several steam-sterilization devices.
The FDA sent Steris a warning letter, dated Feb. 9, alleging that the Mentor, Ohio-based company mis-branded its devices by making claims about the devices’ capabilities that were not cleared by the FDA as part of Steris’ 510(k) applications for market clearance.
Boston Scientific endows Yale scholarship to honor late executive
Boston Scientific Corp. (NYSE:BSX) is giving away $1.7 million to the Yale School of Medicine to fund a scholarship in the name of one of its former executives.
The Natick, Mass.-based medical device giant said it will fund the “Donald S. Baim, M.D., ’75 Scholarship Fund” at Yale, in honor of the company’s former chief medical and scientific officer, who died suddenly in 2009 from a rare form of cancer.
