Ophthalmic device company BVI Medical announced today that it has appointed Andrew Chang as its new chief commercial officer (CCO).
Chang’s appointment comes as the Waltham, Massachusetts-based company enters its next phase of growth, according to a news release. The company said it has upcoming product launches and continued global expansion on the horizon. In his new role, Chang’s responsibilities include leading global sales, global marketing and commercial excellence teams. He reports directly to President and CEO Shervin Korangy.
This executive appointment comes on the heels of a major fundraise for the company, which brought in $1 billion last month. Prior to the major financing, BVI also expanded its intraocular lens (IOL) manufacturing in Europe to meet growing demands. It also launched its Serenity and Serenity Toric premium monofocal IOLs and made strategic acquisitions.
Chang joins the company amid these developments, bringing more than 20 years of commercial leadership experience. That experience spans both ophthalmic medical devices and pharmaceuticals.
Most recently, Chang served as president of Carl Zeiss Meditec USA and as head of global sales for Zeiss Ophthalmic Devices. There, he led commercial strategy and execution across a global portfolio of diagnostic and surgical technologies. Past experience also includes senior roles at Bausch + Lomb, serving as SVP and GM of U.S. Surgical. He also held leadership posts at OptiMedica and ISTA Pharmaceuticals.
