Indiana Gov. Mike Braun announced this week that Boston Scientific (NYSE:BSX) plans to open a new global medical device distribution facility in the state.
The Marlborough, Massachusetts-based medtech giant expects the facility, in Plainfield, Indiana, to create up to 300 new, high-wage jobs. This marks the latest expansion for Boston Scientific’s operations. The company has already confirmed an $88 million R&D investment in Ireland and a facility expansion in Maple Grove, Minnesota, in 2026.
According to a news release from Braun’s office, the Plainfield investment totals $138 million. The company intends to construct and equip a 500,000-square-foot facility at the Plainfield Innovation Park. It expects the plant to support and enhance its U.S.-based distribution and logistics operations.
Boston Scientific plans for the new facility to feature state-of-the-art technology and light manufacturing. It intends to incorporate the necessary processes and operations for regulatory compliance. Once complete, the facility will hold responsibility for the global distribution of medical devices.
The company expects to break ground later this year.
“Indiana’s commitment to further advancing our already robust life sciences sector continues to pay dividends as we welcome Boston Scientific to Plainfield,” said Braun. “This new facility can bolster the state’s global leadership in life sciences and medical device innovation while creating hundreds of high-skilled, high-wage jobs, providing more opportunities for Hoosiers to advance their skills, grow their careers and provide for their families.”
