AiM Medical Robotics recently received a $2 million Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) award from the NIH”s National Cancer Institute to advance its MRI-guided neurosurgery robotics systems.
“Receiving this award is significant well beyond the funding; it validates the clinical and business need through a highly rigorous peer review process and it enables us to demonstrate this technology in brain cancer therapy,” said AiM Medical Robotics founder Gregory Fischer, PhD, prinicipal investigator for the award for, “Intraoperative MRI-Guided Neurosurgery Robot for Enhancing Ablative Treatment of Brain Cancer.”
The Sept. 2 news release from Worcester, Massachusetts–based AiM Medical Robotics is but some of the next extra news that has caught are eye over at MassDevice in recent days. Other recent medtech news came from Haystack Robotics, ZenFlow, CMR Surgical, and Smith+Nephew. Stories included:
- Haystack Robotics (Portland, Oregon) closed a $3.95 million Series A financing round to support global expansion and tech advancements related to Violet AI, its autonomous, AI-powered UV-C disinfection robot. Agadia Systems, a healthcare technology company and existing Haystack investor, led the round.
- Zenflow (South San Francisco, California) saw the first procedures with its Zenflow Spring implant and delivery system for the treatment of symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as enlarged prostate.
- British orthopedic device giant Smith+Nephew is making a cash tender offer for up to $250 million of its outstanding 2.032% notes due 2030.
- Surgical robotics company CMR Surgical, also based in the U.K., announced on LinkedIn that Fabio Milani will join the company on Oct. 1 as commercial SVP, GM, Europe & Canada. The newest addition to the company’s executive leadership team has held senior commercial and general management roles across Europe and Canada at Paul Hartmann, SERF SAS, Smith+Nephew, and Johnson & Johnson.
