Abbott earns Medicare win for TriClip TEER system

Abbott (NYSE: ABT) announced that it received a Medicare win related to its TriClip TEER system.

In a LinkedIn post, the company’s Cardiovascular unit wrote that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released a National Coverage Determination (NCD) and coverage conditions for tricuspid transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (T-TEER) for tricuspid regurgitation (TR). That included the company’s TriClip TEER system.

Abbott Vascular’s CMO Dr. Ethan Korngold will share how AI is shaping Abbott’s cardiovascular portfolio at DeviceTalks West, Oct. 15–16, 2025 in Santa Clara, California. Register at West.DeviceTalks.com.

TriClip offers an option for those who aren’t good candidates for surgery and continue to have symptoms or persistent TR despite treatment with medical therapy. Delivered through a vein in the leg, the TriClip TEER technology clips together a portion of leaflets. It repairs the tricuspid valve and helps blood flow in the right direction without the need for open-heart surgery.

The system received FDA approval in April 2024. Earlier this year, Abbott reported sustained improvements with the system as well.

Abbott says the final NCD coincides with its U.S. launch of the TriClip G5 and MitraClip G5 systems with advanced features. Both systems, with easy handling, precise positioning and intuitive deployment, have FDA approval and CE mark.

“This milestone helps address a critical need for people living with symptomatic severe TR, supporting broader access to a minimally invasive treatment option for those who may be at surgical risk,” Abbott Cardiovascular wrote on LinkedIn.

Sandra Lesenfants, SVP for Abbott’s Structural Heart division, said the company also received an approved Coverage with Evidence Development Study.

“This decision helps open the door to treatment for more people living with symptomatic severe tricuspid regurgitation—many of whom have had few options in the past,” said Lesenfants. “It also provides additional clarity for care teams working to bring minimally invasive solutions to these complex patients.”
