Katie Spayde, Abbott VP and president of the company’s Heart Failure business, shared the news of Gustafsson’s appointment on LinkedIn. He succeeds Dr. Philip Adamson, who left for the same role at CVRx.
“2025 is off to a strong start for our Heart Failure business, and as we look for ways to sustain our momentum, I’m pleased to share that Dr. Finn Gustafsson has officially joined our team as our new chief medical officer,” Spayde wrote. “Our entire organization is thrilled to have him aboard.’
Spayde herself became head of the company’s Heart Failure business a few weeks ago. She originally joined Abbott more than 13 years ago, spending several years across multiple roles in the Diabetes unit. Just before her promotion to head the Heart Failure business, she served as VP, enterprise accounts, Medical Devices.
Gustafsson joins after spending the past seven years as a professor at the University of Copenhagen, according to LinkedIn. He said he’s “extremely excited to join Abbott and continue to help drive improvement in HF care.” Spayde said he brings an “invaluable” level of experience to his new role at Abbott.
