In July last year, Zimmer Biomet entered the robotic surgery field by snagging robotic developer Medtech Innovative Surgical Technology.

French firm Medtech IST produces 2 robotic systems—the Rosa Brain and Rosa Spine.  Both share platforms and are designed around minimally invasive surgeries.

The company recently won FDA 510(k) clearance for the Rosa Spine robotic system and won FDA clearance for its Brain system in 2012. There are currently 27 Rosa Brain systems in U.S. facilities.
